THE DON’T QUIT POEM

THE DON'T QUIT POEM

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit!

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure has turned about,
When they might have won had they stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow!
Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering one,
Often the struggler has given up
When they might have captured the victor’s cup.
And they learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close they were to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint to the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the task when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem the worst, that you must not quit!

-Author Unknown

Thomas Edison said, Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.  Attaining your goals can sometimes feel overwhelming and it can seem easier to just quit and do something else.  Well, you would be in good company, as most people try to reach their goals and most people quit.

When this happens, when you’re having difficulty and things seem impossible,  don’t give up on your goals. Instead take a few moments to:

1. Remember why you set this goal in the first place.  Why is it important to you?  How will accomplishing this goal improve your life?  If you have a strong enough why, you can get there.

2. Analyze your current actions and make any necessary adjustments along the way.  It doesn’t help to keep hitting your head against a wall.  If you come up against a wall try to go around it, over it, under it, or get the appropriate tool and blast through it.

3. Stay inspired.  Use a few motivational and inspirational quotes to keep you going.  Here are a few to get you started.

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world,
the master calls a butterfly.
-Richard Bach

Most of the important things in the world
have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying
when there seemed to be no hope at all.
-Dale Carnegie

I hated every minute of training,
but I said “don’t quit.
Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.
-Muhammad Ali

There are no great people in this world,
only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet.
-William Frederick Halsey, Jr.
